3rd Conference IVASS

Description

Central to the third IVASS Conference is the debate on the nature, essence and purposes of the insurance service, in a framework of intense and diverse pressures which are bound to have an impact on the evolution of this sector.

The review of the European prudential regime, which has been going on for some months now and is scheduled to be completed in 2021, stems from and is prompted by the pressure on the insurance sector to play a more pivotal role in supporting the economy, and be more present in responding to demographic and social changes (advancing age, longevity, healthcare,...) as well as climate changes and sustainable finance.

The discussion will be focused on the search for a new balance between the need to protect policyholders, a supervisory goal under the Solvency II prudential regime, and the role played by insurers in providing adequate insurance services and directing the considerable investments they manage.

After the welcome address by Salvatore Rossi, President of IVASS, and the opening speech by Gabriel Bernardino, Chairman of EIOPA, the Conference will be divided into two panels: the first one will be focused on international issues relating to business and regulation; the second on the peculiarities of the Italian market, also building upon the reflections and experience gained in the first panel.
