Fabio Farabullini

Born in Rome on 21 June 1961, after graduating in Economics and Business at the "Carlo Bo” University of Urbino, he was a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

He joined the Bank of Italy in 1984 and was assigned to the Credit System Information Department. In 1989 he was transferred to the Research Department, Credit Institutions Office, where he worked on credit statistics and analysis of bank operations. From 1997 to 2008 he was assigned to the Monetary and Financial Statistics Division of the Research Department, where he followed, among other things, the project activities for the production of Italian harmonised monetary statistics for the European Central Bank (ECB); from 2005 he was coordinator of the Monetary and Banking Statistics Area. Between the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 he was at the ECB, DG Statistics as NCB expert, dealing with credit risk transfer surveys. He returned to the Economic and Financial Statistics Department of the Economic Research Area of the Bank of Italy and was appointed Head of the Monetary, Banking and Financial Statistics Sector. Between 2011 and 2013 he was in charge of the Operational Risk Management Division of the Organisation Directorate.

Since April 2013 he has been seconded to the Insurance Supervisory Authority (IVASS), where he followed the design of the anti-fraud integrated database as well as the institutional statistical surveys of the Institute; since October 2015 he has been Head of the Recognition and management of information Division.

He has participated in numerous working groups on issues related to banking and monetary statistics within the Bank of Italy and outside with other national bodies; he is coordinator of the working group "Integrated Anti-fraud Database" (AIA), set up at Ivass.

Within the ECB and the Eurosystem he has been a member of the working group "Monetary Union Financial Accounts", of the "MFIs Interest Rates Experts Group", of the task forces "Other Financial Intermediaries Statistics" and "Operational Risk Management".

His research interests mainly focus on the activities of financial intermediaries and bank interest rates.
