Maria Di Francesco

Born in Rome on 15 November 1967, in 1991 she graduated with honours in Economics and Business at Libera Università degli Studi Sociali (L.U.I.S.S.) of Rome, specialising in Business Economics and Industrial Management.

For about two years she worked in a business consulting firm. In 1994 she was hired by ISVAP and assigned to the Prudential Supervision Department. She developed her professional career in this sector, dealing with the main activities connected to off-site and on-site supervision of the financial and technical aspects of insurance undertakings and groups. She was charged with coordinating supervision activities over the major national and cross-border insurance groups, as well as over financial conglomerates, also in the collaboration with the other foreign supervisory Authorities in the framework of the Colleges of Supervisors. She was appointed leader of the team charged with the supervision of the internal model of leading national and cross-border insurance groups, according to Directive 2009/138/EC.

She was member of working groups charged with drafting the regulations issued by the Institute regarding, among other things, undertakings’ financial statements and supervisory reporting, the chart of accounts, insurance registers and anti-crisis measures. She took part in numerous working groups for the definition of the Integrated IT System of Supervision and of the tools for the relevant analyses.

From 7 March 2017 to 31 December 2019 she was Deputy Head of Insurance Groups Division II.

As from 1 January 2020 she is Head of Insurance Groups Division III.
