Annamaria Damiani

Born in Rome on 18 November 1969, she graduated in Law, with top marks, from “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 1993.

In 2000 she qualified for the practice of the profession of lawyer.

Hired by ISVAP in 1996, she was assigned to the Supervisory Department, where she dealt with prudential supervision, both on- and off-site, in particular over life assurance companies.

In 2003 she was assigned to the Consumer Protection Division, where she dealt with the management of the complaints submitted by consumers and with the checks on disclosure in contractual documents. She carried out investigations into legal issues, including inter alia: unfair terms in consumer contracts; conciliation and alternative dispute resolution systems (ADR); regulations on transparency and consumer protection in the insurance, financial and banking sectors and policies linked to mortgages and loans.

From 2012 to September 2019 she was responsible for the Consumer Contact Centre, and she directly contributed to its setting up.

From July 2013 she coordinated the activities of the Foreign Undertakings Division, of which she became Head in February 2015; she dealt with supervision of foreign insurance undertakings for the protection of Italian policyholders, and worked in close coordination with the home country authorities, also participating in the Supervisory Colleges on cross-border insurance groups.

From 2019 to 2022 she was Head of the Distribution and Foreign Operators Supervision Division II, within the Market Conduct Supervision Directorate.

Since 1 September 2022 she has been Head of the Product Supervision Division within the Market Conduct Supervision Directorate.

She has been actively involved in the drafting of secondary regulations on transparency and information requirements for life and non-life insurance contracts and has worked on insurance education.

She has been member of various working groups set up by EIOPA at the international level, addressing issues such as Payment Protection Insurance, travel insurance; she follows issues relating to Brexit and to “Consumers Trends”.

Rapporteur in conferences and seminars about insurance.
