Giuseppa Bentivegna

Born in Siracusa on 16 January 1968.

After graduating with honours in Economics and Business, with a specialization in business management, at the University of Modena (1991), she attended the Master Unioncamere for Economic Development on the advanced tertiary sector, organized by the “G. Tagliacarne” Institute of Rome (1992).

In 1994 she was hired by ISVAP and assigned to the Non-life Inspection Department where she developed her professional career dealing with off-site and on-site supervision of insurance undertakings and groups. From 2003 she was charged with supervision activities over the major cross-border insurance groups and financial conglomerates, also in collaboration with the other European supervisory Authorities in the framework of the Colleges of Supervisors.

She took part in numerous working groups, including international ones, on financial conglomerates, international accounting standards and, in particular, regarding the works of EIOPA on the development of Solvency II, with a focus on first pillar requirements and own funds. From 2019 until early 2022, she was a member of the Internal Model Forum established in EIOPA. In March 2022, she was elected Chair of the Sub-Committee on Financial Conglomerates (JCFC) established under the Joint Committee (JC) of the ESAs.

From July 2013 she coordinated the activities of the Insurance Groups Division IV of the Prudential Supervision Directorate, with delegated powers. She was responsible for the team charged with the supervision of the internal model of a leading insurance group according to Directive 2009/138/EC. From February 2015 to February 2017 she was responsible for this Division; in 2017 she passed the selection for the post of Director. From March 2017 to March 2019 she was in charge of the Insurance Groups Division III

Since April 2019 she has been Deputy Head of the Supervisory Regulations and Policies Directorate.

Since 2020 she has been a member of the Steering Committee for technological innovation in the insurance sector set up at IVASS.

She has taken part, as rapporteur, in many seminars, workshops and study days.
