Fabio Polimanti

Born in Rome on 30 August 1964, in 1990 he graduated in Economics and Business from “La Sapienza” University of Rome, with top marks and with the wish to get his thesis in financial mathematics published.

In 1990 he won the competition for the executive career at ISVAP and until 2017 was assigned to the Department responsible for supervision over undertakings, where he carried out activities relating to on-site and off-site supervision. Until 2002, he mainly carried out and coordinated on-site inspections at large and small companies and claims settlement departments.

From 2006 to 2008 he coordinated the working group for the drafting of regulations implementing the Private Insurance Code on financial statements and registers and collaborated in the drafting of the regulation concerning the IAS/IFRS insurance financial statements, adjusted solvency and the direct compensation procedure for motor liability insurance.

From 2010 he coordinated activities of off-site and on-site supervision over Italian and European groups, also in collaboration with the European supervisory authorities. From 2010 to 2017 he was leader of the teams charged with the supervision of the internal models for the calculation of the capital requirement under Directive 2009/138/EC of two leading international insurance groups. In this framework he also carried out on-site checks at the parent company and at the Italian companies and participated in the joint-decision process for the approval of the internal model by the supervisors involved.

In 2017 he was assigned to the Supervisory Regulations and Policies Directorate in which, in 2020, he was appointed coordinator of the Accounting and Supervisory Guidelines Unit. He has been involved in the drafting of secondary regulations and in the issuing of opinions on supervision and accounting information and sustainability. He has taken part in numerous national and international working groups which, among other things, covered the implementation of the accounting regulations and standards of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.

As from 1 February 2022 he is the Head of the Insurance Financial Statements Regulation Sector of the Supervisory Regulations and Policies Directorate.

Speaker at seminars from 1994 to 2005 at the Chair of Financial mathematics at the Faculty of Economics at “La Sapienza” University of Rome and in university master courses. Co-author of a publication of the European Systemic Risk Board.
