Marco Cosconati

Born in Caserta on 24 March 1978, in 2001 he graduated in political economy, with top marks, at the Bocconi University of Milan.

In 2002 he obtained a Master in Economics at the Pompeu Fabra University and, in 2009, the Ph.D in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania (U.S.A.), which awarded him the annual Paul Taubman Memorial Prize for the best empirical dissertation.

In 2010 he was awarded a scholarship for economists (fellowship) by the Bank of Italy and in 2011 he was hired at the Research Department.

Since 2014 he has been seconded to IVASS and assigned to the Research and data management Division.

In 2017 he was visiting scholar at the New York University and the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.

He coordinated the Family Economics Research Group, which forms part of the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO).

Since 2014 he has coordinated the IPER survey on motor liability insurance, contributing to its design, development and exploitation of information through the quarterly bulletins.
He is a member of the technical table IVASS-ISTAT-ANIA on the use of data on motor liability prices for calculating inflation and of the Technical Secretariat of the Joint Research Committee between the Bank of Italy and IVASS.

He has given lectures at Ca’ Foscari, Scuola Nazionale della Pubblica Amministrazione (SNA), University of Chicago. He has conducted various internal seminars at IVASS on topics such as moral hazard and market efficiency in the presence of information asymmetries.

He has been referee for various economics journals such as the Journal of Political Economy and the Journal of Applied Econometrics and author of research in the insurance sector presented at various institutions such as NBER Insurance Group, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, NYU Stern School of Business, Stanford, University College of London.

As from 1 February 2022 he is the Head of the Research and Statistics Division.
