Maurizio Morvillo

Born Naples on 15 March 1965, in 1988 he graduated with honours in Economics and Business from the “Federico II” University of Naples.

After some years working at an important Italian credit institution, in 1994 he was hired by ISVAP and assigned to the Department responsible for supervision over undertakings, where he dealt with the off-site and on-site supervision over insurance companies. At the beginning of his career on-site inspections were his main working activity.

Afterwards, he was charged with coordinating supervision activities over some national and cross-border insurance groups, with growing international commitment arising also from the collaboration with the other foreign supervisory Authorities in the framework of the Colleges of Supervisors.

In 2011, he was appointed head of the team responsible for supervising the implementation of the internal model of a leading national insurance group, pursuant to Directive 2009/138/EC. In this context, he coordinated the on-site inspections carried out jointly with the other European supervisory authorities involved and the subsequent joint decision-making process referred to in Article 231 of Directive 2009/138/EC.

Starting in 2014, he was involved in activities related to the identification of the leading national group as a systemic entity and subsequently as an Internationally Active Insurance Group (IAIG), also managing relations with the various international bodies concerned.

He has taken part in numerous national and international working groups which, among other things, covered the implementation and ongoing management of insurance undertakings’ internal models and issues relating to the identification of systemically important insurers and the implementation of the IAIS Holistic Framework.

From February 21, 2022, to February 20, 2026, he was Deputy Head of the Insurance Groups Division III.

Since February 23, 2026, he has been Head of the Insurance Groups Division I.
