THE 5 MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can I file a complaint?

If you have a problem with an insurance undertaking, the first thing to do is to send a complaint directly to the undertaking concerned. If the undertaking fails to reply within 45 days or if the reply is unsatisfactory you can apply to IVASS. For further information on how to file a complain see our guide.

How can I check if an undertaking is authorised?

You can consult the Register of undertakings and the lists of foreign undertakings, which also report the insurance classes for which the undertaking is licensed.

I have received a proposal for a suretyship policy of a foreign undertaking I do not know, how can I check if the undertaking is authorised?

Foreign undertakings may issue suretyship insurance if they are licensed to pursue class 15 (suretyship) in Italy. To check whether an undertaking is licensed to pursue business in Italy you can consult the lists of foreign undertakings  or, in case of doubt, you can call the Consumer Contact Centre (800 486661).

Is there a list of unauthorised entities?

Yes, a warning list of cases of counterfeiting or unauthorised undertakings and websites not compliant with the rules on insurance mediation already discovered by IVASS is available on our website.
Therefore, before taking out a policy, it is advisable to consult that list and check if there is a warning on the undertaking or intermediary you have contacted, or on the website where you are about to purchase the policy.

How can I know if a deceased member of my family had underwritten a life policy?

You can contact ANIA (National Association of Insurance Undertakings) - Via di San Nicola da Tolentino 72, 00187 Rome - fax 06 3210793. Here there is a “search service for life insurance covers" which provides information on the existence of life covers, on the Italian market, relating to allegedly insured deceased persons.
