Theft of the vehicle
THEFT OF THE VEHICLE
What documents do I have to submit to the insurer in case of vehicle theft?
Usually the insurance conditions provide for delivery, in addition to reporting the theft to the police, also of the chronological statement issued by P.R.A. (the Public Motoring Register) with the record of loss of possession, a copy of the ownership certificate and set of the car keys. The company cannot ask for the so-called certificate of "closed investigation", except in the case of criminally relevant assumptions (see art. 150-bis of the Private Insurance Code).
My vehicle, for which I had underwritten a fire & theft policy, was stolen. What is the timing for the payment of compensation?
The legislation currently in force does not provide for a time limit for the payment of compensation in the event of theft or fire of the vehicle; check whether the deadline within which the undertaking must provide compensation is indicated in the contract terms.
If there is no specific regulation in the contract and an excessive period of time from your request for compensation has lapsed, you can submit a complaint to the undertaking and subsequently, in the event of an unsatisfactory response, contact IVASS. To obtain compensation, it is no longer necessary to go to the courts in order to obtain the certificate of "closed investigation".
